<p class="custom-rteElement-Summary">A cheque for £500 has been presented to students from Isebrook SEN College in Kettering to help fund the road safety idea that won them a prize in the Northamptonshire County Schools Challenge.</p><p>The students were among the teams that took part in the competition’s Grand Final, held this summer at The Castle Theatre in Wellingborough.</p><p>As part of the competition, teams from schools across Northamptonshire come up with social enterprise ideas focused around a particular theme. This year’s theme was road safety.</p><h2>Reflective backpacks</h2><p>Isebrook SEN College came second and students were this month presented with the prize money they need to progress their idea, which was to design and manufacture ‘IseBright’ road safety school bags and backpacks with reflective strips.</p><p>The youngsters not only came up with designs but have also now sourced companies to manufacture and distribute their road safety merchandise.</p><h3>Proud</h3><p>Isebrook’s executive headteacher Kevin Latham said: “They were really pleased to receive their prize. They felt very proud of themselves and the whole school were very proud of them too and excited to see their product come to life.”</p><p>Laura Jones, Prevention Manager within the joint Prevention and Community Protection Department (Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service) said: “I know the judges last year were extremely impressed with the sheer amount of effort and thought the students at Isebrook had put into a brilliant, winning idea.</p><p>“I’m delighted that the money will be put to good use in making this idea become a reality and helping keep even more children safe on the roads.”</p><p>The subject of this year’s Northamptonshire County Schools Challenge is knife crime and applications are still being welcomed from schools keen to take part.</p><p>To find out more about how to take part in the competition, you can visit <a href="https://www.northants.police.uk/page/county-schools-challenge">Northamptonshire Police County Schools Challenge</a> or ring organiser Henny Cameron on 101, extension 345678.</p>
