Advice for Desborough residents affected by Rushton waste fire

People affected by either a smell of burning or smoke from a waste fire in Rushton are being advised to keep doors and windows closed.

Crews from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) have remained on the scene of the fire at a waste transfer site in Oakley Road since it broke out at around 10.30pm on Tuesday, July 23.

A change in wind direction into today, Thursday, July 25, has meant NFRS has been receiving calls from concerned residents in Desborough who can smell the fire or are seeing smoke from it.

The advice remains for people to keep windows and doors closed.

Firefighters continue to support on-site operations to ensure the deep-seated fire is extinguished, with a progress review due tonight.
