Crews rescue car passengers from Corby lake

Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to facilitate the rescue of a car from the water at Cottingham Road in Corby at 10.18am today (April 22).

Two appliances from Corby attended the scene, as did technical rescue vehicles from Mereway and a water rescue vehicle from Wellingborough.

On arrival the car was semi-submerged and upside down in the water. Contact was made with the occupants of the car, a man and a woman, who were conscious and breathing.

Police and ambulance services were also at the incident, and a tactical plan was formulated for the fire crews to extricate the passengers from the vehicle.

Both occupants were rescued from the car and left in the care of paramedics. Fire crews left the scene at 11.29am.

Rob Green, firefighter training programme manager, said: “I’d like to say well done to all the emergency services at the scene for working together to successfully rescue these two people.”
