Community fun day held for families affected by Regent Street fire

Family with firefighters at the fire station fun day held for families affected by Regent Street fire

Firefighters hosted a community fun day for families affected by the recent fire in Regent Street, Kettering.

About 30 people from the area, many of whom had been displaced from their homes following the fire, attended the special event at Kettering Fire Station during half term week.

Firefighters decided to spread some joy for visitors, including many local children, who have had a stressful few weeks following the fire, by inviting them to the local station and providing some entertainment.

Activities included an egg and spoon race held in fire kit, pass the parcel games, crawling through training tunnels and the ever-popular opportunity to squirt fire hoses.

The large business fire in Regent Street, which led to some local residents being displaced from their homes, took place on May 13.

Station Manager Tony Evans said: “We would like to say a big thank you to all the Regent Street residents who came along to what ended up being an amazing event at the fire station.

“From hose squirting to trying on fire kit and crawling through tunnels, we hope we brought a little happiness back after what has been a tough time for local families.

“In fires such as these, we see first-hand how local communities are affected so we were only too happy to invite people along to the local station to enjoy some of the activities we put on for them.”
