Apprenticeships

Firefighters undertaking training

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) offer L3 Operational Firefighter Apprenticeships for Wholetime Duty System (WDS) firefighters, further information about the standard role can be found here.

New firefighters recruited through the Wholetime recruitment process will embark on the apprenticeship programme that NFRS offer.

The Firefighter Apprenticeship consists of a 24-month training programme delivered by an external partner supported by NFRS.  The course delivery is 20% off the job training with the remainder of the training being covered in the workplace.  During the majority of the apprenticeship, firefighters will be based on station responding to operational incidents.

There will be interim formative assessments to assure the training.  The Apprenticeship finishes with an End Point Assessment facilitated by NFRS and assessed by an End Point Assessment Organisation.  If you have any questions, please refer to our FAQs prior to contacting us.

At present this is the only apprenticeship programme NFRS are participating in.  We are in the process of exploring other avenues.
